UFC Fight Night 133: Alex Volkanovski defeats Darren Elkins
This past weekend Australian featherweight Alex Volkanovski (18-1) stepped inside the Octagon in the United States for the first time. Battling out on the preliminary card at UFC Boise (Fight Night 133), he went up against the representative of the country-host Darren Elkins (24-6). The latter was riding a six-fight win streak.
The scheduled for three rounds bout went the distance. The guest from Down Under came out victorious, scoring a unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28 x2).
“Featherweight contender Darren Elkins saw his six-fight winning streak snapped by Australian up and comer Alex Volkanovski, who scored a three-round unanimous decision victory in his first UFC trip to the United States,” stated in the report.
Volkanovski made his UFC debut in November 2016. His current record in the promotion is 5-0. In his previous outing earlier this year in Perth, he stopped Jeremy Kennedy in the second round.
UFC Boise marked the promotion’s first visit to Idaho. In the main event Junior dos Santos scored a unanimous decision against Blagoy Ivanov at heavyweight (50-45 x3).
