Muay Thai drama ‘A Prayer Before Dawn’, fight your way out

Muay Thai Fighting for Freedom

While the world highly anticipates an upcoming boxing drama Creed 2 with Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, Muay Thai planet has its own film, A Prayer Before Dawn (2017) starring Joe Cole, Vithaya Pansringarm and Panya Yimmumphai.

The movie is based on the life experience of Billy Moore who survived Thai prison by becoming a Muay Thai fighter. The story is about a young English boxer who is thrown into a terrifying world of drugs and gang violence. He fights his way through with the authorities to be allowed to partake in the bouts, which appears to be the only way to regain his freedom.

The movie was shot in a real Thai prison with a cast of primarily inmates. In addition, Somluck Kamsing, Olympic gold medalist and Muay Thai fighter is also in the film.

A Prayer Before Dawn was featured on the programme at the 2017 Melbourne International Film Festival. The initial release in the US is scheduled for August 10. The film is also available on DIRECTV.

Last February SHOWTIME hit the small screen with the Prison Fighters: Five Rounds to Freedom. The documentary filmed from the inside of the infamous Khao Prik prison tells the story about the convicts who have the chance for a release through the Prison Fight program.
