IFMA Muay Thai Youth World Championships 2018
IFMA Youth World Championships 2018 is an eight-day fiesta held from 2 to 10 August in Bangkok, Thailand. The event makes history as the largest gathering of young Muay Thai competitors with over 80 nations participating, and over all number of delegates close to 1,200.
Numerous teams have arrived to Bangkok this week, including Australia. As many as 37 juniors from six states represent “Green and Gold”, aspiring to earn medals.
The team has arrived, registered and ready “to take over the championships and bring home the medals,” Muaythai Australia stated on Facebook.
IFMA Youth World Championships is an Olympic-system tournament. The initial weigh-in ceremony precedes the tournament draw, with the bouts starting the day after.
“Over 30 people are involved in the weigh-in, from registration to medical staff to the IFMA officials; all working to ensure that the youth don’t have to wait too long and get that initial check over with,” International Federation of Muaythai Amateur reported. “Athletes can see who is in their bracket meaning their know who their competitors are and can estimate how many bouts they will have to reach the final.”
Last year Team Australia earned medals in both male and female classes.
