UFC 227: Cejudo takes split decision against Johnson, becomes new flyweight champion
UFC 227 featured a twelve-fight card held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Cali on August 5 (Aug. 4 in the US). Two championship belts were contested on the top of the bill.
In the main event the defending UFC Bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw faced the former title holder Cody Garbrandt. The scheduled for five rounds championship bout ended prior the final bell.
Dillashaw retained his belt scoring the first-round stoppage win with knee and punches. In addition, he took the second win against Garbrandt.
In the co-main event Demetrious Johnson was making his 12th consecutive flyweight title defense against Henry Cejudo. After five rounds of action a split decision went in favor of the latter, who became a new champion in the division, as well as took a revenge for the defeat suffered at UFC 197.
Also on the main card featherweight Renato Moicano submitted Cub Swanson in the first round. As well, JJ Aldrich earned a unanimous decision against Polyana Viana at women’s strawweight. In addition, Thiago Santos similarly defeated Kevin Holland at middleweight. The complete results can be found below.
