UFC 229: five bouts added to Khabib vs. McGregor fight card

UFC 229 features the return of Conor McGregor when he takes on the defending lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at the T-Mobile Arena on October 7 (Oct. 6 in the US). Five additional bouts presented on the card have been formally announced by the promotion on Friday.

Three previously expected match ups have been confirmed. The list includes the flyweight battle between two contenders: ranked No.2 Sergio Pettis and ranked No. 5 Jussier Formiga. The pair contests for a spot to take on a newly crowned champion Henry Cejudo. As well, Ryan LaFlare faces Tony Martin in a clash of welterweight veterans, and Lina Lansberg takes on Yana Kunitskaya at women’s bantamweight.

In addition, “there will be plenty on the line in the strawweight division as well, as No. 7-ranked Michelle Waterson squares off with No. 8-ranked Felice Herrig,” stated in the announcement. “At 205 pounds, unbeaten Dominick Reyes will attempt to crash when the No. 12-ranked Californian takes on No. 7-ranked Ovince Saint Preux.”

A heavyweight bout between Alexander Volkov and Derrick Lewis is yet to be confirmed. The current lineup can be found below.
