Mike Tyson visits India to launch Kumite 1 League
The debut of Kumite 1 League is scheduled for September 29 at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai. The event marks the first time when a live scoring MMA competition is contested by teams representing their countries. Topping up the bill, the former undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is expected to appear at the inaugural event as a special guest.
“This is my first visit to India and I am happy to be associated with Kumite 1 League,” said Tyson. “When Mohamedali ([Budhwani] founder of K1L) reached out to me for the first time and discussed his vision for the league, I was convinced that this is something that has great potential.”
“I will be in India for the launch event and very excited to meet my fans in India.”
The first contest reportedly features the representative of the country-host going up against the fighter out of the UAE. The names of competitors are yet to be announced.
Three match ups have been announced by World Kickboxing Network on Wednesday (via Twitter). The list includes two European and three South American Mixed Martial Artists. The matchmaking is made in collaboration between The Fighting Network and CEO of K1L Somesh Kamra.
