UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor fight card in the making
UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on October 7 (AWST). The event marks a highly anticipated return of the former two-division titleholder Conor McGregor. “The Notorious” goes up against the undefeated defending lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
On Wednesday the promotion formally announced a previously expected bout between two top heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov. The contests serves as a co-main event.
“The co-main event will see a battle between heavyweight KO artists, as No.2-ranked contender Derrick Lewis will lock horns with No.5-ranked Alexander Volkov,” stated in the release titled as “Nurmagomedov and McGregor Battle in Biggest Fight in UFC History”.
In addition, a previously indicated bantamweight matchups between Sean O’Malley and Jose Quinonez has been confirmed.
“Rising bantamweight Sean O’Malley (10-0, fighting out of Glendale, Ariz.) will look to keep his perfect record intact against streaking Jose Quinonez (8-2, fighting out of San Diego, Calif. by way of Tlaltenango, Mexico).
The UFC 229 fight card also includes a “pivotal clash of flyweight contenders” featuring No.2-ranked Sergio Pettis (17-3) up against on No.5-ranked Jussier Formiga (21-5). Other bouts are expected to be added to the roster in the coming weeks. The current lineup can be found below.
