The Mixed Martial Arts promotion Kumite 1 League makes its debut on September 29 in Mumbai. The event takes place at the NSCI Dome in Worli, featuring a championship programme India vs. UAE.

In August the promotion announced that the former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson launches the inaugural event. On Saturday FIGHTMAG learned that the President of World Kickboxing Network Stephane Cabrera attends the event as a special guest, which follows his trip to Buenos Aires where he assists Simply the Best 22 a week earlier. Both men travel to India for the first time.

Mid last month WKN announced its extended support to Kumite 1 League. In addition, Stephane Cabrera remarked the CEO of K1L, Somesh Kamra as “a key player in the development of combat sports in India”.

The four-year collaboration follows a series of recent Ganryujima events in Japan, where the Indian athletes have competed under the banner of WKN Top Team, as well as the pilot of Girl Power Kickboxing which was produced in Latvia in 2014.

Kumite 1 League marks the first time when a live scoring MMA competition is contested by teams representing the countries. Among others, the announced Team India is represented by the likes of Paulo Silva, Antonio “Tony” Gordillo, Kamen Georgiev. Team UAE includes Dmitry Batok, Mohammed Azzani, Mickael Lebout, among others. A complete lineup is expected to be announced in the coming days.
