Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KO) is the defending WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO Middleweight champion. Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KO) aspires to claim the belts in a rematch, which follows their first encounter held last year. In addition, a vacant The Ring title is at stake.
A the official weigh-in ceremony conducted a day before the fight show both fighters weighed-in under the 160-pound limit. The champion tipped the scales at 159.6. The challenger showed 159.4.
