Canelo vs. GGG 3
Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez battled out for the second time this past weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The latter took a majority decision win (114-114, 115-113, 115-113) as well as became a new WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO Middleweight champion, while GGG suffered the first defeat in his professional boxing career.
The contest was a rematch following their initial encounter held a year ago. The first bout ended in a split draw.
According to Boxingscene.com Canelo is possibly to be seen in action next on December 15. The location of the bout is either MGM Grand in Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York.
Meanwhile, Golovkin’s trainer reportedly suggested May 2019 as a potential date of a possible third fight with Alvarez. The contest though wouldn’t happen until Cinco De Mayo weekend, English portal Express reported with a reference to Boxingscene.
In addition, Tom Loeffler, promoter of Golovkin, said that Madison Square Garden for a third fight would make a lot of sense, News.com.au reported citing The Post. The first two bouts were held at T-Mobile Arena.
