A vacant women’s flyweight title is on the line on December 9 (AWST) in Toronto. Joanna Jedrzejczyk takes on Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 231 held at Scotiabank Arena, the promotion announced on Friday.

The former champion in the division Nicco Montano was stripped off the belt at UFC 228 earlier this month. She was expected to defend the title against Shevchenko, but the fight was cancelled, after she was transported to a medical facility due to health concerns.

Valentina Shevchenko (15-3) is coming off the second-round submission win against Priscila Cachoeira in February. Her resume also includes the wins against Holly Holm, Julianna Pena, among others.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk (15-2) is the former UFC strawweight champion who moves up a weight class. In her most recent bout in July she scored a unanimous decision against Tecia Torres. Before that she faced a couple of defeats against Rose Namajunas, losing the belt.

In addition, Jedrzejczyk and Shevchenko have previously met three times inside the square circle. The pair battled out at the IFMA Muay Thai World Championship tournaments (2006-2008). The latter twice took the decision win in the quarter-finals, as well as in the final on the most recent occasion.
