Muay Thai star Somrak has been declared bankrupt

While the world of professional boxing and Mixed Martial Arts counts millions from PPV buys, some of the most known muaythai athletes find themselves in a financial hole. Famed Thai fighter Somrak and his wife, Soawanee Khamsing, have been declared bankrupt, reported on Saturday.

According to the report, on Friday Royal Gazette published an order of the Legal Execution Department. The order states that the couple is declared bankrupt by the central bankruptcy court on August 9, as per request by the Mahanakhon Asset Management Co Ltd.

The court ordered their assets to be foreclosed and put under the care of an official of the Legal Execution Department. The debtors seeking repayment have been advised to inform the Legal Execution Department of their intention within two months of the day the order was published in the Royal Gazette.

Born in Khon Kaen, Somrak Kamsing has become the first Thai athlete to earn Gold at the Olympics, competing in boxing (featherweight) at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Prior to switching to amateur boxing he was considered as one of the best Muay Thai fighters, alongside another legend Jomhod Kiatadisak.

Somrak has also appeared in movies, including Fearless (2006) starring Jet Li, A Prayer Before Dawn (2017), together with Saiyok Pumpanmuang, among others.
