UFC 231: Holloway vs. Ortega

UFC 231 takes place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on December 9 (AWST). The event is headlined by the defending featherweight champion Max Holloway up against Brian Ortega, TSN reported on Tuesday.

The pair was originally expected to co-headline UFC 226 in July. The bout fell off when the champion was pulled from the contest due to concussion like symptoms a few days before the event.

Max Holloway (19-3) won the interim UFC featherweight title against Anthony Pettis in December 2016. In June 2017 he defeated the undisputed, at that time, champion Jose Aldo, unifying the belts. In his most recent bout last December “Blessed: successfully defended the title against the later.

Brian Ortega (14–0, 1 NC) is coming off the first-round knockout win against Frankie Edgar in March. Before that he submitted Cub Swanson, Renato Moicano and Diego Brandao, as well as knocked out Clay Guida and TKO’d Thiago Tavares.

In addition, the promotion added to the card a middleweight bout between Elias Theodorou and Eryk Anders, as well as a light heavyweight contest between Jimi Manuwa and Thiago Santos.
