UFC 229 took place at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday October 7 (AWST). In the main event the defending lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov faced the former two-division titleholder Conor McGregor. The bout has been dubbed “the biggest fight in UFC history”.
“The Eagle” entered the Octagon being undefeated in all 26 bouts of his professional MMA career. Furthermore, he has never lost a round.
“The Notorious” is the first man who has held UFC titles in two different weight classes simultaneously (featherweight and lightweight). He stepped inside the Octagon for the first time since November 2016.
The scheduled for five rounds championship bout ended prior the final horn. Nurmagomedov claimed the win by submission (rare naked choke) in Round 4.
When the contest was over, Khabib reportedly got into confrontation with one of McGregor’s trainers, which resulted in a brawl in and outside the Octagon.
Also on the main card Tony Ferguson and Anthony Pettis at lightweight. The light heavyweight clash between Ovince Saint Preux and Dominick Reyes ended in favor of the latter who took a unanimous decision.
In addition, Derrick Lewis stopped Alexander Volkov in the third round at heavyweight, and Michelle Waterson scored a unanimous decision against Felice Herrig at women’s strawweight. The complete UFC 229 results can be found below.
