Cormier vs. Lewis headlines UFC 230
UFC 230 is held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 4 (AWST). A heavyweight title bout headlines the event, featuring the defending champion Daniel Cormier up against the challenger Derrick Lewis, the promotion announced on Wednesday.
Daniel Cormier (21-1, 1 NC) is a current two-division title holder (light heavyweight and heavyweight). He claimed the heavyweight strap against Stipe Miocic in July, scoring the first-round knockout win at UFC 226. Earlier this year he successfully defended his light heavyweight title against Volkan Oezdemir, taking the second-round stoppage win.
Derrick Lewis (21-5, 1 NC) is fresh of the win scored at UFC 229 held this past weekend in Las Vegas, where he KO’d Alexander Volkov in the third round. Before that he earned a decision against Francis Ngannou and stopped Marcin Tybura in Round 3.
In addition, a previously announced lightweight matchup between Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier reportedly fell off. The latter wad forced to pull out due to injury. A replacement opponent is yet to be named. A current UFC 230 lineup can be found below.
