World Kickboxing Network shares 1998 photos with Don King, Joe Frazier, Michael Spinks

Throwback: World Kickboxing Network in the US

In 1998 the World Kickboxing Network made history as the first organization to feature kickboxing world title fight on the same card as boxing world championship. Moreover, the event held in Atlanta, GA, USA, was promoted by the biggest promoter at that time “Mr Boxing” himself, Don King.

The contest saw French K-1 legend Jerome Le Banner up against Brazilian Espedito Da Silva. The pair battled out for WKN World Super Heavyweight title (video).

Le Banner vs. Da Silva was featured on the undercard of Evander Holyfield vs. Vaughn Bean for the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles. The Showtime televised event was billed as “The Power and the Glory” taking place at Georgia Dome on September 19, 1998.

On Friday World Kickboxing Network presented a new set of rare photos from a historic happening. Among everyone, the images feature such boxing legends as Joe Frazier and Michael Spinks, Jimmy Lennon Jr., Stephane Cabrera, Billy Murray. The eight-photo gallery can be found below.
