UFC 234: Whittaker vs. Gastelum

UFC 234 takes place at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia on February 10. The first Pay-Per-View MMA event of 2019 is topped by Robert Whittaker in defense of his middleweight title against ranked No. 4 Kevin Gastelum. A light heavyweight battle between Jim Crute and Ryan Spann is a recent addition to the fight card, Courier Mail reported on Friday.

Australian Jim Crute (9-0) is currently undefeated in all of his nine MMA outings. He made his UFC debut at Fight Night Adelaide earlier this month, taking the third-round submission win against Paul Craig. Before that he TKO’d Chris Birchler in the first round at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.

American Ryan Spann (15-5) is riding a five-fight win streak. In his previous outing in September he earned a unanimous decision against Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 137. In June he submitted Emiliano Sordi in the first round.

The promotion is yet to formally announce the matchup.

The UFC 234 fight card also includes a middleweight bout between Israel Adesanya and Anderson Silva. In addition, Nadia Kassem faces Montana De La Rosa at women’s flyweight.

Other bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The current lineup can be found below.
