Muay Thai Pan Americans finalizes IFMA 2018 calendar

The dust has barely settled after Asian Championships held in Macau earlier this month. And yet, Muay Thai flame traveled across the sea with Pan Americans 2018 held at the central sports hall “Club Atletico Atlanta” in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The roster of the event featured over 20 nations, including USA, Canada, Colombia, Peru, Chile, among other ,countries. Male and female Muay Thai fighters, as well as juniors battled it out in their respective weight classes aspiring to earn medals.

Some of the biggest names in PanAmerican Muay Thai took at the event. The World Games 2017 and World Championship medalists have competed, including Gabriel Mazetti, Luna Tobin, Janet Todd, Luis Morales, among others.

The final day of competition featured 21 bouts at elite level, nine in the women’s divisions and the remainder in the men’s. The team award was tightly contested with medals awarded across youth and adult levels counted in the final tally. Argentina won the top prize to the delight of the crowd, with Canada and Peru coming second and third respectively, International Federation of Muaythai Amateur reported.

Lisanne Van Der Molen won gold for Peru at 60 kg, adding to her bronze at world level, in a tough bout with newcomer Selina Flores USA. Peru also claimed wins in the men’s with Ian Escuza and Gabriel Mazzetti (71 kg) giving them third place overall in the team rankings.

Team Canada claimed third place overall, taking four golds, three silvers, and two bronze medals. Scott MacKenzie took gold at 75 kg, the most keenly contested division with the largest number of athletes entered according to the organisers. The remaining golds went to Josimar Tullock (54 kg), Sarah Carter (75 kg) and Taylor McClatchie (57 kg).

Other teams including Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Brazil also saw their athletes on the winners podium. The fight results can be found on IFMA website.

Muay Thai Pan Americans 2018 was the following combat sports fiesta held in South American capital of kickboxing this year. In November Buenos Aires was a city host of UFC Fight Night 140 which marked a debut of Ultimate Fighting Championship in the country. In addition, as many as five Simply the Best episodes were produced in Argentina over the course of Season 4.
