UFC 237 Brazil
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Brazil with UFC 237 held on May 12 (AEDT). The venue accommodating MMA event is yet to be named. However, according to reports women’s strawweight title is scheduled to be contested on the night.
The reigning UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas faces Jessica Andrade, making her second defense of the belt. The bout has been announced by UFC president Dana White, ESPN reported Tuesday.
Rose Namajunas (8-3) claimed the title in November 2017 when she stopped the former queen in the division Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the first round. “Thug Rose” made her first successful title defense in an immediate rematch against the latter last April, scoring a unanimous decision.
Jessica Andrade (19-6) has previously challenged for UFC women’s strawweight belt going up against Jedrzejczyk in May 2017 who was the champion at that time and retained the belt by a unanimous decision. In her previous bout last September “Bate Estaca” stopped Karolina Kowalkiewicz in the first round. Before that she defeated Tecia Torres and Claudia Gadelha by a unanimous decision.
The Namajunas vs. Andrade fight is yet to be formally confirmed by the promotion. The contest as well as other matchups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
