WKN World Tour: Central Asia
The Directors of World Kickboxing Network visit Central Asia in terms of the next edition of WKN World Tour. Stephane Cabrera and Osman Yigin travel to Almaty, Kazakhstan and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from 5 to 12 March, the organization announced Tuesday (via Twitter).
Almaty is the largest metropolis and trading and cultural hub in Kazakhstan, as well as the country’s capital until 1997. Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which borders Central Asia’s Tian Shan range.
The visit is dedicated to continue kickboxing development worldwide, evolve the sporting relation, giving an opportunity to countries, that are less put forward, to organize A-class events and compete on the international level. The travel to Central Asia follows the visits to Tanzania, Zanzibar, Iran and Nepal, reads the initial announcement last November.
Over the years both countries, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have produced a number of champions from boxing to MMA. UFC Women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who has also competed in Muay Thai, is arguably the most notable (as of writing) fighter out of Kyrgyzstan, while the former unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin is the star of the Sweet Science.
