UFC 236: Holloway vs. Poirier 2
Following UFC 235: Jones vs. Smith held this coming Sunday (Mar. 3) in Las Vegas, the next PPV event produced by Ultimate Fighting Championship this year is scheduled for April 14 (AEDT) at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. In addition to the previously announced interim middleweight title fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya, the second championship bout has been added to the programme.
The contest features Max Holloway up against Dustin Poirier battling it out for interim UFC Lightweight belt in the headliner of the show. Moreover the bout is their second encounter. The pair first met in a featherweight battle at UFC 143 in February 2012 when the latter won by submission in the first round.
Today Max Holloway (20-3) is the undisputed UFC Featherweight Champion. He is unbeaten in 13 bouts since August 2013 when he lost to Conor McGregor by a unanimous decision. In his previous outing last December “Blessed” stopped Brian Ortega in the fourth round, making the second successful defense of his belt.
Dustin Poirier (24-5, 1 NC) won four out of five most recent fights, that includes “No Contest” with Eddie Alvarez. In his previous bout he defeated Alvarez by TKO in Round 2. Before that he stopped Justin Gaethje, Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller.
The reigning champion in the lightweight class is Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has been suspended following the brawl post Conor McGregor fight at UFC 229.
