Fresh of the win against Artem Pashporin this past weekend in Bangkok, Buakaw Banchamek has already announced one of his next outings. Renowned Muay Thai fighter faces his old foe, Kung Fu practitioner Yi Long.
The pair first met mid 2015 in Jiyuan. After three rounds of action Buakaw earned a unanimous decision. Their second battle in November 2016 in Nanjing ended in favor of Long who took the win also by decision.
Their third contest takes place in Hong Kong this October. The matchup was announced at the press conference recently held at Pathumwan Princess Hotel in Bangkok. The date is expected to be set in the coming weeks.
Buakaw won six of his previous bouts appearing at the All Star Fight events. The two-time K-1 World Max champion defeated Pashporin, Niclas Larsen, Gaetan Dambo, among others. The resume of “White Lotus” also includes the victories against some of the most known Muay Thai fighters and kickboxers including Andy Souwer, Jomhod Kiatadisak, John Wayne Parr, just to name a few.
In his previous outing last November Yi Long faced Korean giant Choi Hong-man in an exhibition matchup. Before that he lost by knockout against Saiyok Pumpanmuang and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong. Prior, “Shaolin Monk” was riding the 12-fight win streak, which includes the wins against Buakaw, Enriko Kehl, Marco Pique, among others.
The Buakaw Banchamek vs. Yi Long 3 is scheduled for one by nine-minute round with the fighters battling it out in 5 oz gloves. In order to take the win the competitor is required to score a knockout. As a result, the decision is not on the cards.
Another famed Muay Thai fighter Yodsanklai Fairtex has previously competed under such rules. In April 2017 he stopped Masoud Menaei with punches.
On the same night Buakaw Banchamek appeared as a special guest. This marked the first time when their encounter with Yodsanklai was teased for the first time.
