Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Giorgio Petrosyan possible in ONE Super Series Featherweight World Grand Prix
Muay Thai celebrity Yodsanklai Fairtex is fresh of the win against Andy Souwer earned late last month in Tokyo, Japan. Battling it out in “The Land of the Rising Sun” “The Hero” stopped two time K-1 World MAX champion in the second round as well as avenged the defeat he suffered eleven years ago. The 70 kg catchweight kickboxing bout in MMA gloves was featured on the ONE Championship fight card billed as “A New Era”.
Yodsanklai now enters ONE Super Series Featherweight World Grand Prix. After the fight with Souwer he was asked about his expectations of the tournament and thoughts on the other athletes partaking in the eliminator.
“We are all World Champions, so it is not going to be easy. Each opponent I face will be a new challenge.”
I’m concerned a bit about the really tall competitors and facing the Thais. With the Thais, I don’t have an experience advantage, and they are all a lot younger than me,” said 33-year-old Muay Thai star.

Yodsanklai also mentioned the name of Giorgio Petrosyan. The Armenian-Italian kickboxer is widely considered as one of the best in business. Known as “The Doctor” he held numerous titles including the World Kickboxing Network Intercontinental Welterweight championship, Bellator Kickboxing Lightweight title, ISKA World Super Welterweight and WMC Intercontinental Welterweight belts. In addition he twice became the winner of K-1 World MAX World Championship Tournament.
“I’m excited to possibly face [Giorgio] Petrosyan because we’ve never fought before. I hope to face him in sometime in the tournament.
Over the course of his career Petrosyan fought and defeated the A-list competitors including Fabio Pinca, Robin van Roosmalen, Albert Kraus, among others. Yet, he never shared the ring with Yodsanklai, the winner of The Contender Asia (2008).
In addition, Yodsanklai said that the regular [boxing] gloves might put him at “a slight disadvantage”.
“If I face Andy [Souwer] again, I think it will be different with the bigger gloves, too.”
The matchups and dates of ONE Super Series Featherweight World Grand Prix are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
