Lethwei legend Mite Yine faces Morn Samet in the main event of Karen Spirit
World Lethwei Championship presents a mega event in Kayin State for the first time this Sunday (May 5) with WLC: Karen Spirit live from the picturesque city of Hpa-An, Myanmar. In the main event, Myanmar’s Mite Yine, who hails from the state, takes on Morn Samet from Cambodia.
Mite Yine is considered one of the biggest names in all of lethwei and is one of the most exciting fighters in the world. Morn Samet is an aggressive fighter with devastating elbows, making this a tantalising match up.
Kayin State is the epicentre for lethwei culture. While the sport is practiced in all of Myanmar, it is held in higher regard among the Kayin people, an ethnic subset in Myanmar. Lethwei is part of the culture and fights are held at all important occasions.
WLC: Karen Spirit takes place at May 5 from Chit Tu Myaing Park, a theme park in Hpa-An, Kayin State, Myanmar. Live broadcast starts at 6.30pm (Myanmar Time) on 5 May. The event will be available to 50 million people in Myanmar through Canal+ and globally on UFC Fight Pass.
Chairman of World Lethwei Championship, U Zay Thiha, stated: “World Lethwei Championship is coming to Kayin State for the first time! Some of the world’s best fighters hail from this state and they are now treated to a world-class spectacle. We have brought together the best fighters from all over the world and this will be the greatest lethwei event in history!”
The full fight card features eight bouts. In the co-main event, former Myanmar Light Welterweight National Championship Kyaw Zin Latt takes on German-Thai striker Burutlek Petchyindee Academy. The undefeated Saw Min Min also returns to action against fellow young talent Aung Aung Htoo, and two of the world’s best female athletes face off as Myanmar’s Eh Eh take on Vietnam’s Huynh Ha Huu Hieu.
