Giorgio Petrosyan partakes in ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix
Italian kickboxing star Giorgio Petrosyan is back in the ring on May 17 in Singapore. He partakes in ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix contested in the format of knockout tournament. To become the champion, the contender has to collect three victories at the events scheduled for 2019 across Asia, going through quarter-final, semi-final and final. An upcoming event, billed as “Enter the Dragon”, is a kick off of WGP. “The Doctor” is featured on the roster along seven other top strikers. He is willing to take it all.
In the opening round the Armenian-Italian fighter takes on Thai Phetmorakot Petchyindee Academy. The list of other quarter-finals includes Andy Souwer face off Jo Nattawut, Yodsanklai Fairtex up against Samy Sana, and Dazhabar Askerov versus Enriko Kehl.
“Winning this world title would be extremely important because it would further cement the fact that I am the best in the world. It’s as simple as that,” said Petrosyan in a recent interview published on the promotion’s website.
Over the course of his career Giorgio Petrosyan indeed earned almost all championship belts of modern kickboxing. The two-time K-1 World MAX champion, has also held Word Kickboxing Network and WMC Intercontinental Welterweight titles, Bellator Kickboxing Lightweight title, ISKA Super Welterweight belt, and the list goes on. In addition, he has become GLORY 2012 Lightweight Slam tournament winner. He is however yet to be done collecting trophies.
“This [ONE Championship] is the most important belt in the world right now. I want to win that belt at all costs.”
Although not revealing too much of the game plan for his upcoming bout against Phetmorakot, Petrosyan promised “a fantastic fight, a technical fight, and may the best man win”.
