Canelo-Jacobs heated weigh-in faceoff
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs square off in the middleweight championship of the world on May 5 (AEDT). The contest takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The bout is scheduled for twelve rounds. The winner takes WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, The Ring and lineal middleweight titles.
In his previous bout last December Saul Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KO) moved up a weight class and scored the third-round TKO win against Rocky Fielding, as well as earned WBA (Regular) Super Middleweight title. Before that Canelo took a majority decision against Gennady Golovkin in a rematch, and became a new WBA and WBC Middleweight champion.
Daniel Jacobs (35-2-0, 29 KO) is riding a three-fight win streak. In October 2018 he took a split decision against Serhiy Derevianchenko claiming a vacant IBF Middleweight title. Before that he scored a pair of unanimous decisions against Maciej Sulecki and Luis Arias.
At the official weigh-in ceremony the defending WBA, WBC and The Ring Middleweight champion Alvarez tipped the scales at 159.5. The defending IBF Middleweight champion Jacobs declared 160.
In addition, the final faceoff got heated.
