UFC Minneapolis: Ngannou vs. dos Santos new main event

UFC Fight Night at Target Center in Minneapolis received a new headliner. The previously announced main event bout between Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler was cancelled due to hand injury received by former welterweight champion “T-Wood”. Lawler was removed from the card, and a pair of heavyweights has been slotted for June 30 (AEDT) event on ESPN. The contest features Francis Ngannou up against Junior dos Santos. The promotion announced the change on Tuesday (via Twitter).

Ngannou and dos Santos were set to square off at UFC 239 scheduled for July 7 (AEDT) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Yet, the heavy-hitters now face off a week earlier. In addition, they were previously matched for UFC 215 held in Edmonton in September 2017 but the bout fell off. As understood, their upcoming clash is scheduled for five rounds.

Francis Ngannou (13-3) is riding a two fight-win streak. He won both bouts by way of TKO in the first round with punches against Cain Velasquez and Curtis Blaydes. Before that he dropped a three-round unanimous decision against Derrick Lewis. In addition, Ngannou to become a new UFC Heavyweight champion, yet fell short with Stipe Miocic, champion at that time, successfully defending his belt by a unanimous decision, which snapped his ten-fight winning streak including a “Knockout of the Year” against Alistair Overeem.
