Russian MMA promotion M-1 Global returns to Kazakhstan on June 28 with a trio of title bouts held in the city-capital, Nur-Sultan. The “M-1 Challenge 102” event features two championship defenses in the welterweight and featherweight classes, and a contest for a vacant bantamweight strap.
In the main event the representative of the country-host Shavkat Rakhnonov (11-0) defends his welterweight title for the first time against Brazilian challenger Tiago Varejao Lacerda (28-6-1). The Kazakh fighter won the strap in March by TKO in the second round against Daniil Prikaza. Lacerda is coming of the first-round knockout win against Kurbanjiang Tuluosibake.
In the co-main event, Kazakh Sergey Morozov (14-4) and Russian Alexander Osetrov (5-0-1) battle it out for the vacant M-1 bantamweight title. Former champion Movsar Evloev recently relinquished his belt to sign a contract with UFC. Morozov makes his second attempt to win the title, after falling short against Evloev. After that he won three fights in a row. Osetrov is coming of a majority decision win against Salem Evloev, the elder brother of former champion.
The featherweight champion Nate Landwehr (12-2) of the US also makes his first title defense facing off Russian Viktor Kolesnik (15-3-1). In addition, the pair meets for the second time. Their first encounter in 2017 ended in favor of the current champion, who won the fight by split decision as well as snapped the 13-fight win streak of the latter.
In his previous bout last December Landwehr retained his belt when he stopped Andrey Lezhnev in the third round. He claimed the title against Khamzat Dalgiev in July 2018.
After suffering his first defeat Kolesnik rebounded taking the first-round submission win against David Souza. After that he stopped Daniel Swain by TKO with leg kicks.
