French Stephane Susperregui (48-8-2, 28 KO) faces Dutch Luis Tavares (60-7-0, 22 KO) at the upcoming GLORY 66 kickboxing event held at Zenith Paris on June 22. The scheduled for three rounds light heavyweight contest kicks off the main card featuring two title fights. The matchup is one of four recently announced bouts.
For almost a decade “Ippo” Susperregui has been one of the top ranked heavyweights from France. Having a successful run he has held World Kickboxing Network Heavyweight title, winning the belt by knockout in the second round against Damian Garcia in 2011. The following year he attempted to become the two-sport titleholder when he went up against the defending Muay Thai champion (at that time) Nathan Corbett. Although the contest ended in favor of “Carnage” the Frenchman definitely made a name for himself, going a five-round distance with “the man with the golden elbows”.
Stephane Susperregui won the following four bouts, prior making his GLORY debut falling short against Danyo Illung in 2013. Nevertheless, he hasn’t lost in seven bouts after that, which includes six victories and a draw.
In June 2017 Susperregui once again appeared on the crossroads suffering the fourth-round TKO defeat against Sergej Maslobojev. Yet, in August the same year he took a revenge against Illunga scoring a unanimous decision at Fight Night Saint Tropez 5, which also preceded a couple of victories against Wladimir Tok and Mikhail Tyuterev.
In his previous bout last October Susperregui was defeated by Donegi Abena who scored a unanimous decision. The latter is the top ranked contender challenging the defending light heavyweight champion Artem Vakhitov in the headliner of GLORY 66 Super Fight Series. Before that, 34-year-old French lost to Arnold Oborotov also by unanimous decision.
In summary, Stephane Susperregui is coming off two back to back losses, yet having a number of notable victories behind his belt. The question is whether he is capable of defeating Luis Tavares, currently ranked No.2 in the light heavyweight class of GLORY. “The Infamous”, 28, on the other hand, is riding the two-fight win streak, which includes a split decision against Artur Gorlov and a unanimous decision against Kamran Aminzade. His resume also features Enfusion Live Heavyweight and Heavyweight belts, including two championship defense.
In the main event of GLORY 66 Cedric Doumbe defends his welterweight title against Alim Nabiyev. In the co-main event Anissa Meksen defends her super bantamweight strap against Sofia Olofsson. Among other bouts featured on the card, “spinning back kick sensation” Tomas Mozny takes on light heavyweight Nordine Mehieddine. The current lineup can be found below.
