The trilogy meeting between Buakaw Banchamek and Yi Long is scheduled for October 8. The contest features famed Muay Thai fighter up against Kung Fu practitioner in the nine-minute decider. Each has previously scored a three-round decision over another. Yet, according to the rules of their third battle, in order to come out victorious the competitor is required to knock his opponent out.
The date of matchup has been revealed earlier this week. Additional details have been announced on Thursday, including the venue hosting the event, Star Hall inside KITEC (Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre), which can accommodate audiences of 3,600 people, as well as the prize money for the winner totaling 50 million Thai Baht (approx AU$2,280,000).
Buakaw Banchamek and Yi Long presented at the recent Mas Fight Grand Prix held in Hong Kong. Promoting the bout, they have addressed the audience, as well as exchanged words with each other.
“Yi Long, you will be knocked out. Please prepare to go to the hospital,” the official website of Mas Fight quotes Buakaw Banchamek.
The pair first met mid 2015 in Jiyuan, where Buakaw scored a three-round unanimous decision. Their second encounter in November 2016 in Nanjing ended in favor of Yi Long, who took the revenge also by decision.
Their third fight is scheduled for one by nine minutes round with with no judges ringside. The contender has to score a knockout, with a three-knockdown rule in place. The draw is declared if the bout goes the distance.
Buakaw Banchamek is riding the six-fight win streak. In his previous bout in March he earned a unanimous decision against Artem Pashporin.
Yi Long was last inside the ring in November 2018 when he faced Choi Hong-man in an exhibition matchup. Before that he was knocked out by Saiyok Pumpanmuang and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong.
The lineup of the upcoming show is also expected to feature Superbon and Yodwicha Banchamek, among others.
