The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Sweden with UFC Fight Night 153 held at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm on June 2 (AEDT). MMA event on ESPN+ featured 12 bouts with former light heavyweight title challengers, Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith, battling it out in the headliner of the show.
The scheduled for five rounds Gustafsson vs. Smith bout didn’t go the full distance. American mixed martial artist took the win by submission (rear naked choke) forcing the representative of the country-host to tap out at 2:38 of the fourth round.
In addition, ranked No.4 light heavyweight Smith updated his record to 32-14. Gustafsson, who over the course of his career had twice challenged for UFC Light Heavyweight title, dropped to 18-6 and retired inside the Octagon.

The co-main event saw another light heavyweight matchup between Jimi Manuwa and Aleksandar Rakic. The latter scored the knockout win early in the opening round with head kick.
Also on the main card featherweight Makwan Amirkhani submitted Chris Fishgold in the second round, and lightweight Christos Giagos earned a unanimous decision against Damir Hadzovic. In addition Daniel Teymur claimed a unanimous decision against Sung Bin coming out victorious from their featherweight encounter, which kicked off the main card.
