Girl Power 8 Bedzin: Eight-woman knockout tournament with WKN belt on the line

The women’s kickboxing series Girl Power makes its debut in Poland with Episode 8 produced tonight (June 7). The event takes place in the city Bedzin, featuring a knockout contest with eight international featherweights battling it out for WKN belt.

To win the tournament the contender has to collect three victories during one evening going through quarter-final, semi-final and final. The fast-paced bouts are scheduled for three rounds.

The roster of the upcoming show includes four representatives of the country-host, two Italian fighters, the competitor from Ukraine and the kickboxer from Malta. The tournament draw was conducted on Thursday over the course of the official weigh-in ceremony.

Barbara Nalepka of Poland and Vittoria Di Mauro of Italy kick off the tournament squaring off in the first quarter-final bout. Both athletes tipped the scales at 59.8 kg.

The second quarter-final features Diane Schembri up against Olga Gavrish. The competitor from Malta weighed-in at 57.4 kg, while her Ukrainian opponent declared 57 kg.

Karolina Mlynik showed 57.9 kg for the third quarter-final bout, in which she faces her Polish-fellow Wiktoria Mirecka, who was 59.4 kg.

The fourth quarter-final bout is a matchup between Italian Marika Pagliaroli and local Katarzyna Jaworska. The athletes weighed-in at 59.4 kg and 60.6 kg, respectively.

The co-promoter of Girl Power 8 is “SuperKick” Cezary Podraza. The referee on the night is Klaus Hagemann. President of World Kickboxing Network Stephane Cabrera attends the event.
