Dutch fighter Jorina Baars is a recent addition to the athlete roster of ONE Championship, the promotion announced this week. She holds the 49-0-3, 16 KO record in kickboxing and Muay Thai with the Lion Fight and ISKA women’s welterweight titles behind her belt.
ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong welcomed a new-comer to the promotion saying “We are more than thrilled to welcome a true world-class martial artist like Jorina Baars to our growing ONE Championship family.”
“Jorina is a great addition to our elite roster of World Champions. She owns the distinction of being a National Champion, a Grand Prix champion, and a two-time World Champion in different promotions. Jorina is a proven winner, and I personally cannot wait to watch her bring her winning attitude and championship mindset into the ONE Super Series platform. Jorina is just the latest World Champion to join the ONE ranks, and you can definitely expect even more world-class talent to come over in the near future.”
In her previous bout in last September Jorina Baars stopped French Amel Dehby in the first round. Before that she knocked out Greek Athina Efmorfiadi in Round 2 and scored a three-round unanimous decision against Belgian Anke Van Gestel.
For Australian audience Baars is known for her five-round unanimous decision win against Stephanie Glew at Caged Muay Thai 8 on the Gold Coast, Queensland in 2016. In addition, her resume includes a unanimous decision win against Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino in 2014.
“My favorite quote is ‘Winners never quit, and quitters never win’. I am a warrior, and I’m ready to take my career to the next level,” Baars said. “I am here in ONE Championship because the best fighters in the world are here. It is an honor to be among so many legends of martial arts. I want to fight the best in the world and I will fight anyone. If the stars are aligned, I would not mind fighting Cris Cyborg again.”
Baars also tried herself in mixed martial arts. Yet to date she has pulled a single win by submission in the first round against Alexandra Buch in February 2013. In her most recent MMA bout in April the same year she retired after the second round in a bout against Maria Hougaard Djursaa.
More information on Jorina Baars’ ONE Championship debut is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
