Gladiators Fight Night 23 results: Azzopardi defeats Hosseini

Kickboxing World Championship returned to Malta with Gladiators Fight Night 23 held last night (June 29) at the Corradino Sports Pavillion in Paola. The event aired on Iconic Sports TV featuring local star Keith Azzopardi facing off Afghani-German Qurban Hosseini. The pair battled it out for WKN Featherweight title under oriental rules.

The scheduled for five rounds championship bout went the distance. Following a knockdown scored in Round 2 via a jumping knee, Azzopardi comfortably claimed a unanimous decision to become a new world champion in the division.

Furthermore, two weeks prior the Maltese kickboxer claimed WKN Featherweight title in Full Contact when he earned a unanimous decision against former champion from France Jonathan Pastorino in a 12-round battle held in Nice. Ultimately, Keith Azzopardi becomes the first fighter from Malta to hold world titles in two disciplines of kickboxing simultaneously (Full Contact and Oriental rules).

The co-main event at Gladiators Fight Night 23 saw women’s kickboxing encounter between Diane Schembri of Malta and Pia Peters of Germany. The pair of bantamweights went head to head during four rounds of WKN European pro-amateur championship. The verdict went in favor of the German competitor, who took the belt by a split decision.

The undercard featured a series of bouts with local and international competitors.
