The WKN Super Featherweight Kickboxing title was contested last night (July 6) in the main event of “The Night of Super Fight” in Iglesias, Sardinia. The World Championship bout featured the representative of the country-host Nicola Canu face off French Brandon Vieira. The pair battled it out in front of the full house at Piazza Sella.
The encounter saw a two-time European champion Canu going up against World champion in oriental kickboxing Vieira. After five rounds of fast-paced action a unanimous decision went in favor of the guest from France.
As a result Vieira became a new WKN Super Featherweight champion in the style of “lowkick”, adding the second belt to his collection. In April Frenchman claimed world title under oriental rules (K-1 style), scoring a TKO win against Alessandro Moretti in Rome.
In addition, Brandon Vieira joins Keith Azzopardi, a new WKN Featherweight champion in Full Contact and oriental rules. The latter has recently become the first Maltese fighter to hold world titles in two disciplines of kickboxing simultaneously.
The co-main event at The Night of Super Fight 7 saw Francesco Picca facing off his Italian-fellow Alessandro Ragusa. The scheduled for three rounds 67 kg catchweight bout ended prior to the final bell. The newly-crowned WKN International Super Lightweight champion Picca claimed the win by TKO after he scored three knockdowns in one round, which resulted in referee waving the fight off.
The undercard featured a series of bouts in kickboxing and Muay Thai. President of World Kickboxing Network Stephane Cabrera attended the event.
The Night of Super Fight in Iglesias, Sardinia was one of four events that World Kickboxing Network presented on July 6 in four different countries, such as Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria and Argentina. Among the bouts Gaston Monroe defeated Dylan Salazar to take WKN Argentinian Lightweight Kickboxing title at Bosch Tour “Estrellas de Acero” in Morón, Buenos Aires.
