Jo Nattawut faces Giorgio Petrosyan in semi-final of ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix

Jo Nattawut faces Giorgio Petrosyan on August 16 in Bangkok, Thailand. The pair meets in the semi-final of ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix. The contest is featured on the card billed as “Dreams of Gold”.

In addition, the upcoming bout is their second encounter. The first clash in April 2018 ended in favor of “The Doctor”, who scored a unanimous decision. The outing mid next month is a chance for “Smokin'” Jo to take a revenge.

At the open workout recently (July 25) held at the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel in Bangkok, the Thai fighter promised “to shock the world once again”.

“I know my opponent is a legend in this sport, and I’ve already lost to him before. But I’ve made some key changes to my training and overall style,” Nattawut said.

“I’m not the same fighter I was a year ago when we first met. I’m stronger and faster now, and more well-prepared for our second meeting.”

“This August, I’m going to shock the world once again and I’m going to take down this giant. I have my eye on the prize, and I’m going to do everything I can to beat [Giorgio] Petrosyan and reach the tournament finals.”

The winner of Nattawut-Petrosyan 2 is expected to face the winner of another semi-final featuring Dzhabar Askerov up against Samy Sana. The pair also battles it out at the upcoming ONE Dreams of Gold event.

The fight card is headlined by Petchdam Petchyindee Academy in defense of his ONE Flyweight Kickboxing title against Ilias Ennahachi. The champion was also in attendance at the open workout on Thursday.

“I am excited to get back in the ring and prove myself again in ONE Super Series. Becoming ONE World Champion is one of the greatest achievements of my career and it is such an honor to represent Thailand on the biggest global stage of competition,” Petchdam said.

“My opponent is another tough one, who is also well-versed in the kickboxing style. I have to be at my best for this fight. But I am confident that my skill and power will carry me to victory. I’m training very hard for this fight and I want to give the fans a good show.”

The list of other fighters attending the open workout included two-sport atomweight champion Stamp Fairtex, who returns to MMA in a fight against Asha Roka. As well, Bangpleenoi is scheduled to face Yohan Drai in a featherweight fight, while his Muay Thai fellows flyweight Lerdsila and bantamweight Muangthai take on Savvas Michael and Kenta Yamada, respectively.

The finalised full fight card is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
