The good thing about combat sports for its hardcore fans, is that there is always action to enjoy at the end of the week. There is no wait for a season to kick off, there is no breaks between the tournaments, and so on. There is simply a “Fight Weekend”, which includes a variety of shows held globally, from small to big, featuring numerous disciplines, from boxing to bare-knuckle fighting, and everything in between. Below is a five-event schedule for August 2-4 (AEST), that one might find useful.
This coming Friday is a host of two championship events. The list includes a mixed-fight card produced by ONE FC in Manila, Philippines, and a bareknuckle fighting lineup presented by World Lethwei Championship in Mandalay, Myanmar.
Making its return to the Philippines, ONE Championship hosts the “Dawn of Heroes” event topped by Martin Nguyen in defense of his featherweight title against Koyomi Matsushima. The co-main event is a flyweight Muay Thai contest between the defending champion Jonathan Haggerty and the challenger Rodtang Jitmuangnon. Also on the card the likes of Eddie Alvarez, Demetrious Johnson, Eduard Folayang, and others. The complete lineup can be found here.
Meanwhile in Myanmar, World Lethwei Championship brings the show billed as “WLC King of Nine Limbs” featuring two title bouts and a launch of women’s division. Dave Leduc and Seth Baczynski battle it out for a vacant cruiserweight title, following a light middleweight championship between the current titleholder Artur Saladiak and contender Sasha Moisa. In addition, Eh Yanut and Souris Manfredi meet at bantamweight kicking off the female class of WLC. The complete fight card is available here.
Saturday also features a pair of championship shows. This includes “WKG & M-1 Challenge 103” MMA event in Shenzhen, China, and WKN British Open in Fraserburgh, Scotland.
M-1 Global visits China with the interim M-1 Challenge flyweight championship between Alexander Pletenko and Chris Kelades. The co-main event, which is scheduled to be contested as a final bout on the night, features Huoyixibai Chuhayifu and Arnold Quero, facing off at bantamweight. The announced fight card is here.
Also on the day, World Kickboxing Network makes its following visit to the United Kingdom with the inaugural WKN British Open championships held in Fraserburgh, Scotland. The roster includes adult and junior competitors battling it out in their respective age and weight classes at the event aimed to continue the development of sport, building a new generation.
The culmination hits Sunday when Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Northern New Jersey with UFC on ESPN 5 held in Newark. The event is headlined by Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler squaring off at welterweight, following a lightweight battle between Jim Miller and Clay Guida. Check out the full card here.
