Kickboxing series “Simply the Best” was created by World Kickboxing Network in October 2014. As many as 24 episodes were produced across four seasons in various European countries as well as in South America. The events featured prominent international competitors battling it out for WKN World and subordinate titles.
Episode 10 was the first show of Season 2. The event took place at Top Hotel Praha in Prague, Czech Republic on April 15, 2016, marking the second series produced in the country. Top of the fight-bill saw Frenchman Nicolas Wamba in defense of his WKN Intercontinental Super Heavyweight title against local star Ondrej Hutnik.
The champion at that time, Wamba earned the strap by unanimous decision against another Czech heavyweight Petr Vondracek in May 2015. The pair went a full distance at Simply the Best 4, which ended in a unanimous decision pronounced in favor of the French fighter (video below).
Aspiring to take a revenge, Vondracek was scheduled to face Wamba for the second time, yet the fight fell off when he was forced to withdraw due to injury. Ondrej Hutnik stepped-in replacing his countryman.
The Wamba vs. Hutnik bout featured the defending champion and the challenger squaring off in a super heavyweight clash, which ended prior to the final bell. After first two rounds, which went back and forth, Czech southpaw dropped his opponent in the third with left straight.
Receiving an eight count, Wamba got up and seemed having his hands up. Nevertheless, the referee waved the fight off seeing that Frenchman was wobbly and unable to recover.
Ultimately, Ondrej Hutnik was awarded the victory by TKO in the third round and became a new titleholder.
