Demetrious Johnson in his bout against Tatsumitsu Wada

The finalists of ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix are now determined. The championship round is expected to see Demetrious Johnson and Danny Kingad squaring off on October 13 in Tokyo, Japan. Both are the winners at the last night’s (August 2) “Dawn of Heroes” event held in Manila, Philippines.

Demetrious Johnson of the US earned his spot in the final by unanimous decision against Tatsumitsu Wada of Japan. Local Danny Kingad took a split decision against Reece McLaren of Australia.

“After a brief exchange on the feet in the first round, Wada was able to take Johnson to the mat and secure his back. Johnson however defended very well. Action continued in the second round with Johnson dominating the grappling exchanges. In the third and final round, Johnson appeared to have Wada figured out and took control of the bout to cruise to a unanimous decision victory,” reads the event recap sent out by the promotion.

Kingad survived a number of precarious situations in the first two rounds to rally back in the final round. In the last two minutes of the bout, Kingad dominated a fading McLaren as he was able to land a couple of takedowns and unload some ground-and-pound to swing the decision in his favor.”

The Johnson vs. Kingad championship round on October 13 is presented on the card billed as “ONE: Century”. The event is also expected to see the final bout of lightweight WGP featuring Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev up against Eddie Alvarez, who advanced to the final also last night, taking the first-round submission win against Eduard Folayang.

In the main event of ONE Dawn of Heroes Martin Nguyen retained his featherweight title by TKO in the second round against Koyomi Matsushima. In the co-main event Rodtang Jitmuangnon became a new flyweight Muay Thai champion after he scored a unanimous decision against former champion Jonathan Haggerty.
