Nate Diaz is back in the Octagon on August 18 (AEST) when he takes on Anthony Pettis at UFC 241. The scheduled for three rounds battle at welterweight co-headlines the pay-per-view fight card held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA.

Diaz (19-11) was last seen in action in August 2016 at UFC 202 held at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, NV. He faced Conor McGregor for the second time in a “Fight of the Night” that ended in a majority decision in favor of the latter. Ahead of Diaz’s return later this month the promotion hit the stream with the video of the first fight between two rivals.

The pair first met early March 2016, battling it out in the main event of UFC 196 held at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. The contest marked Diaz’s return to welterweight, while McGregor made his debut in the division.

The encounter didn’t go the distance. It was all over at 4:12 of the second round with Nate Diaz claiming the win by submission (rear-naked choke). The bout was as well awarded as the “Fight of the Night”.

After their second encounter Diaz hasn’t fought in three years (until now). McGregor went to stop Eddie Alvarez in the second round later in 2016, and faced the tenth-round stoppage defeat against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing bout in August 2017. In his previous MMA outing last October he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in Round 4.

UFC 241 is headlined by Daniel Cormier in defense of his heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic. The pair meets in a rematch.

Their encounter in July 2018 ended in favor of “DC” who earned the win as well as the belt by knockout in the first round. The upcoming championship bout is scheduled for five rounds.
