Holly Holm and Raquel Pennington square off for the second time at UFC 243, ESPN reported citing sources. The event take place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on October 6. The pair first met in February 2015 in LA, where Holm won the fight by split decision.
In her previous outing early July Holly Holm (12-5) challenged Amanda Nunes, aspiring to regain UFC women’s bantamweight title, but was stopped on the last minute of the first round. Before that she scored a unanimous decision against Megan Anderson, and lost by unanimous decision against Cris Cyborg in the featherweight title bout. “The Preacher’s Daughter” is well-known for the Melbourne crowd with her sensational win by knockout with head kick against Ronda Rousey in the championship fight in November 2015.
Raquel Pennington (10-7) won her previous bout, also in July, by split decision against Irene Aldana. Before that she suffered a unanimous decision defeat against Germaine de Randamie, and the fifth-round stoppage against Nunes, which was her quest for the bantamweight title. Before that “Rocky” was riding a four-win streak including victories against Miesha Tate, Elizabeth Phillips, among others.
The Holm vs. Pennington bout is scheduled for three rounds at women’s bantamweight.
In the main event of UFC 243 Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya do battle in the scheduled for five rounds middleweight championship unification. Also on the card Luke Jumeau faces Dhiego Lima at welterweight, and Justin Tafa takes on Yorgan De Castro at heavyweight.
