Dan Hooker vs Al Iaquinta expected at UFC 243 Melbourne

The UFC 243 fight card keeps growing. The event takes place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on October 6. A lightweight battle between Dan Hooker and Al Iaquinta has been “verbally agreed”, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reported citing multiple sources. The contracts are expected “to be signed in the coming days”.

Dan Hooker (18-8) won his previous bout in July by knockout in the first round against James Vick, declaring “Performance of the Night”. Before that he was stopped by Edson Barboza in the third round, which snapped his four-win streak including the victories against Gilbert Burns, Jim Miller, among others.

Al Iaquinta (14-5) is coming off the defeat suffered by unanimous decision against Donald Cerrone in May. Prior to that he scored a unanimous decision against Kevin Lee and dropped a unanimous decision against the current champion in the division Khabib Nurmagomedov. Before that he won five bouts in row against Diego Sanchez, Jorge Masvidal, among others.

The promotion is yet to formally announce Hooker vs. Iaquinta.

In the main event of UFC 243 Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya square off in the middleweight championship unification. The event is also expected to see Holly Holm in the women’s bantamweight battle against Raquel Pennington.
