Petrosyan vs Sana: US$1 million kickboxing finale

ONE Century: Giorgio Petrosyan vs Samy Sana

The finalists of ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix have been determined. The second round of the tournament was held last night (August 16) in Bangkok, Thailand at the event titled “Dreams of Gold”. The bouts pitted Giorgio Petrosyan up against Jo Nattawut, and Dzhabar Askerov face off Samy Sana.

Petrosyan and Nattawut met for the second time. Their first outing in April 2018 ended in favor of Petrosyan, who scored a unanimous decision. The second battle, serving as a co-main event, ended prior to the final bell. “The Doctor” claimed the win by knockout in the first round.

“In the highly-anticipated rematch, Petrosyan and Nattawut stood toe-to-toe in the opening moments of the bout, with both strikers trading blows. With just seconds left in the round however, it was Petrosyan who was the last man standing, after connecting on a stiff left straight that separated Nattawut from his senses,” via the event recap sent out by the promotion.

Askerov and Samy Sana met earlier on the main card. The pair went a three round distance, which ended in a majority decision pronounced in favor of the latter.

“It was all Sana throughout the three-round contest, as the towering Frenchman controlled the center of the ONE Circle and picked Askerov apart with punishing combinations. A knockdown in the opening round set the tone for Sana, as he never looked back and secured the biggest win of his ONE Super Series career so far.”

Giorgio Petrosyan and Samy Sana are expected to square off in the finale featured on the “ONE Century” fight card. The event takes place at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on October 13. The tournament’s grand prize is US$1 million.

In the opening round Petrosyan twice fought Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy and scored a unanimous decision in the most recent outing. Sana defeated Yodsanklai Fairtex by unanimous decision.
