Jeff Horn and Michael Zerafa squared off on August 31 at Bendigo Stadium in Bendigo, Australia. The contest featured the Brisbane boxer in defense of the WBA Oceania middleweight title against the challenger from Melbourne.
The scheduled for ten rounds championship bout ended in Round 9. The referee waved the fight off after Zerafa unloaded another fury of punches, following an eight count received by Horn seconds prior.

Ultimately, Michael Zerafa became a new WBA Oceania middleweight champion and updated his record to 26-3, 15 KO. Horn dropped to 19-2-1, 13 KO.
In the post-fight interview inside the square circle Horn said that he “just felt really sluggish”.
“It’s really annoying, I hate using that as an excuse. But I just felt like crap going into it. Well done to Michael ’cause he outboxed me. But I don’t feel like it was the best me in there tonight. Yeah, I just felt a little bit off. I don’t know why. I felt heavy, I felt sluggish. I don’t know if it was something I did leading up, or something I ate, but I just didn’t feel the right me.”
Horn’s supposed next opponent – WBA (regular) middleweight champion Ryota Murata of Japan is now a desired vis-a-vis for Zerafa.
“We want that fight. My team and I will obviously sit down and talk. Now we just celebrate with the team and everybody that stuck by me.”
The Horn vs. Zerafa bout topped the event titled “Battle of Bendigo”.
