Welterweights Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal square off in the headliner of the pay-per-view UFC 244 fight card scheduled for November 3 (AEST) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The contest was announced by UFC President Dana White, ESPN reported Sunday.
Nate Diaz (20-11) made his victorious comeback mid last month after three years of layoff. Battling it out at UFC 241 he scored a unanimous decision against Anthony Pettis. Post-fight the Stockton fighter said he would face Jorge Masvidal to figure out who is the “Baddest Mother F**ker” in the sport of MMA.
In August 2016 Diaz suffered the defeat by majority decision against Conor Mcgregor. Before that he submitted “The Notorious” in the second round, and scored a unanimous decision against Michael Johnson.
Jorge Masvidal (34-13) is riding the two-win streak. In his previous bout at UFC 239 in July he stopped Ben Askren in five seconds with flying knee, recording the quickest KO in the UFC history. Prior to that “Gamebred” knocked out Darren Till in the second round.
At the UFC 242 post-fight press conference Dana White said that “that fight started to come together late last night, and we got it done. We offered Colby [Covington] and [Kamaru] Usman fights, and they didn’t jump on it. So we rolled and we made another fight.”
Talking the “BMF” belt, UFC President said it would be “one and done”.
UFC 244 is also expected to see a middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Darren Till, light heavyweight matchup between Corey Anderson and Johnny Walker, and a heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Blagoy Ivanov.
