UFC Fight Night 159 took place at Mexico City Arena on September 22 (AEST). MMA event on ESPN+ featured the 12-fight card with featherweights Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens facing off in the headliner of the show.
The encounter ended early. The latter received an accidental eye poke 15 seconds in the first round and was unable to continue. As a result the bout was declared No Contest.

Stephens reportedly was still unable to open his eye five minutes after returning to the change room. He was escorted by security from the Octagon due to some fans pelting him with beer and popcorn.

The co-main event saw Alexa Grasso up against Carla Esparza. The scheduled for three rounds women’s MMA battle at strawweight went the distance. The verdict heard a majority decision in favor of the latter. The bout received “The Fight of the Night” bonus.
Also on the main card, the flyweight battle between Brandon Moreno and Askar Askarov ended in a split draw. In addition, Irene Aldana scored a unanimous decision against Vanessa Melo, and Steven Peterson knocked out Martin Bravo in the second round with spinning back fist.
