PROKICK Lord of the Ring results
World-class kickboxing returned to Northern Ireland on October 26 with the “made in Prokick” event billed as “Lord of the Ring”. The fight show took place at Stormont Hotel in Belfast, featuring a series of bouts with local and international competitors. The headline bout saw the contest for WKN Intercontinental Welterweight title between the defending champion Johnny “Swift” Smith and challenger Shuhei Sone of Japan.
The scheduled for five rounds championship bout in oriental kickboxing ended prior to the final bell. Smith scored the win and retained his belt by knockout in the second round.
In addition he updated his professional kickboxing record to 11-0, 6 KO. Sone dropped to 15-9-2, 5 KO.
Smith earned the WKN Intercontinental Welterweight title by TKO in the fourth round against Lee Ji Hoon of Korea in June. He is now qualified to challenge for WKN gold.
The co-headline bout at “Lord of the Ring” featured former two-division World Kickboxing Network champion (featherweight and lightweight) Gary Hamilton of Northern Ireland up against Douglas Morrision of Scotland. The pair met for the second time, squaring off in the “18 years in the making” rematch at super welterweight. Their first bout in February 2001 ended in favor of Hamilton who earned the win by TKO.
Their second bout went a full distance. After seven rounds of Full Contact the local athlete took the win by decision.
After the bout Hamilton reportedly took to the microphone and said “I am happy to go out on a win but feel Douglas won this fight tonight,” via Fraserburgh Fitness Centre on Instagram.
Prokick Lord of the Ring marked 30 years when former four-division Full Contact Champion, Belfast’s Billy Murray won his first world title.
