Canelo KO’s Kovalev to take WBO Light Heavyweight title

Saul Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev squared off on November 3 (AEST). The contest featured the middleweight king up, who moved up a weight class to challenge the defending WBO Light Heavyweight champion. The pair headlined the fight card on DAZN held at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.


The scheduled for twelve rounds championship bout ended prior to the final bell. Canelo claimed the win at 2:15 of Round 11, executing a powerful left hook followed by a vicious right cross.

In addition he updated his record to 53-1-2, 36 KO and became a new champion in his new weight division. Sergey Kovalev dropped to 34-4-1, 29 KO, which snapped his two-fight win streak.

Among other bouts featured on the card Ryan Garcia knocked out Romero Duno in the first round. Bakhram Murtazaliev scored a unanimous decision against Jorge Fortea.
