Argentinian boxing legend Marcos “El Chino” Maidana is back in the ring, facing off his country-fellow, kickboxing star Jorge “Acero” Cali. The pair squares off on April 4 or 11, 2020 at the yet to be announced venue, MundoD reported.
The bout was initially announced in February. The contracts are expected to be formally signed on November 15 at the press conference held at Hotel Faena in Buenos Aires. The boxing match is scheduled for five by three-minute rounds at catchweight with the limit of 85 kg.
“El Chino” Maidana (35-5, 31 KO) is a former WBA world champion in two weight classes, super lightweight and welterweight. He was last seen in action in September 2014, when he dropped a unanimous decision against Floyd Mayweather in an immediate rematch, following the defeat by majority decision suffered in May the same year. Prior to that the 36-year-old boxer was riding the four-fight win streak, including a unanimous decision against Adrien Broner, and three stoppages against Josesito Lopez, Martin Angel Martinez and Jesus Soto Karaas.
“Acero” Cali is a former World Kickboxing Network Super Cruiserweight champion. His resume features three successful title defenses, including the victories against Abderahim Benazzizi, Adul Ranmhemavo, Ademar Correa, among others.
