Pereira defends middleweight title against Bayrak at GLORY Collision 2

Alex Pereira makes the fifth defense of his middleweight kickboxing title against challenger Ertugrul Bayrak. The contest is expected to co-headline a highly anticipated GLORY Collision 2 fight card, topped by a five-round rematch between Rico Verhoeven and Badr Hari. The event takes place at GelreDome in Arnhem, Netherlands on December 22 (AEST).

Alex Pereira (31-6, 20 KO) is riding the seven-fight win streak. In his recent outing in September in Miami he earned the interim light heavyweight title by knockout in the third round against Donegi Abena. In his previous bouts the Brazilian champion stopped Jason Wilnis in the first round, scored a unanimous decision against former champion Simon Marcus in the rematch, knocked out Yousri Belgaroui in Round 1, among others.

Ertugul Bayrak (18-6, 5 KO) was last seen in action in March in Strasbourg where he took a split decision against Jakob Styben. Last December the Dutch-Turkish kickboxer defeated Donovan Wisse also by split decision.

“To be part of such a historic event for the sport is an honor for me and it will be the crowning moment of a year in which my career went to the next level,” said Pereira (via GLORY Kickboxing). “The secret to my success is being able to stick to solid technical game-plans, which are specifically created for each opponent. Against Bayrak will be no different – I’ll show that not only am I the middleweight champion but also that I am the best pound for pound striker in the world right now.”

Bayrak stated that “People are talking about Pereira like he’s some monster but he’s not, he’s just a man. It will be Mano y Mano in the ring on fight night, one man against another. And honestly, I am not that impressed by him. He’s got some good wins but I’ve watched a lot of his fights and I don’t find his technical level to be as high as he thinks it is.”

The Preira vs. Bayrak championship bout is scheduled for five rounds. Other matchups are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
